The all-active Saturday morning band for Alveley!

Alveley Village Band was founded in 1990 by Colin Jones MBE. It is now in its 19th season. Literally anyone can join the Band irrespective of the musical talent because the music is written so that people of all abilities contribute. Any combinations of musical instruments are possible - from classical violins and trumpets to jazz, rock and folk instruments! There is a role to play for everyone who loves music.

 

The Band, conducted by Iain Masson, performs at least six times per year, alongside visits to special needs centres, primary schools and other community venues. It is currently preparing for a summer concert at Severn Valley Country Park on Saturday 11th July 2009, 7.00pm, which will feature music from stage and screen, various PROMS hits as well as a spectacular fireworks finale for all the family.

 

The Band is a social band with high musical aspirations and a sense of family pride. It combines fun and enjoyment with a genuine desire to learn and improve. The conductor aims to help everyone improve at their own rate, and places an emphasis on loyalty and commitment above musical talent - there are absolutely no auditions or entry restrictions.

 

There are currently around 40 members ranging in age from 8 to over 70, and rehearsals take place every Saturday at Alveley County Primary School from 9.00-11.00am (term-time). The Band is currently appealing for assistance from local parents, grandparents, music teachers and community leaders to help us explore innovative ways of getting local children back into the band. Dudmaston Hall for many years was the Band's prime concert venue. We were honoured to represent our village as the local band and we entertained hundreds of locals in the glorious grounds of the estate. It is a late 17th-century mansion with art collection, lakeside garden, dingle, woodland, lakes, River Severn and estate.
